1 Project management and preparation

  • 1.1 Automatic saving

All changes in a project are saved automatically. This means that adjustments are stored immediately and no longer need to be saved manually. When something is deleted by accident, it is also immediately gone. Fortunately, scenes can easily be recreated.

  • 1.2 Preparing projects

Projects can be created in advance and fully tested. This makes preparing for a broadcast clear and efficient. When the studio computer is accessible via the internet within your own network, preparation can even be done from home.

  • 1.3 Duplicating standard projects

It is possible to use existing projects as a basis for new broadcasts. Right click on a project and choose duplicate. This is useful for broadcasts that use the same structure.

2 Importing and managing media

  • 2.1 Loading PowerPoint

A PowerPoint must first be uploaded in the Media tab using the upload button. Then in the Scene tab you can select the desired file via select PowerPoint. The presentation is loaded immediately and becomes visible on the multiviewer.

  • 2.2 Loading videos and images

Images and videos are uploaded via the Media tab. While creating a scene you select the desired media file. When the scene starts the media file automatically appears on the multiviewer.

  • 2.3 Loading logos

On the right side of the scene environment you can load a logo directly from the computer. This does not need to be uploaded through Media. The position of the logo can be adjusted using the available buttons.

  • 2.4 Editing PowerPoints

The studio computer is delivered without editing software such as PowerPoint or video editors. If you want to use an editor, it can be installed as long as this is not done during broadcasts to avoid stability issues. For editing presentations or videos, Davinci Resolve is a reliable and free option.

  • 2.5 PowerPoint clicker not working

First check if the PowerPoint clicker is turned on. On the side there is a switch that shows a green light when activated. Check whether the USB receiver is correctly placed in the USB port and try another USB port if necessary. Test the clicker on another computer to see if the problem is in the device. When multiple PowerPoints are used, the USB receivers may have been switched.

3 Connecting external sources

  • 3.1 Connecting a laptop

On the control desk there is an HDMI cable labeled HDMI IN. When this is connected to a laptop the image appears on the multiviewer. In the display settings of the laptop you can choose duplicate or extend.

  • 3.2 Connecting a phone or tablet

Sharing a phone or tablet screen works through the studio’s wireless network. Connect the phone to the GetyourStudio Wireless network. Ensure the studio computer is connected to the same network. Open Smart View on Android or Screen Mirroring on Apple and select the correct Wireless Share device. The phone screen is mirrored immediately. Then create a Picture in Picture scene using the Wireless Share source.

  • 3.3 Duplicating or extending a laptop image

When connecting a laptop via HDMI IN you can choose duplicate (same image) or extend (extra screen) in the laptop’s display settings. This determines how the content appears on the multiviewer.

  • 3.4 Wireless Share differences between Apple and Android

When sharing wirelessly using Wireless Share, Android works via Smart View and Apple via Screen Mirroring. Make sure both the phone and the studio computer are connected to the GetyourStudio Wireless network. Select the displayed Wireless Share device. After that Wireless Share can be used as a source in scenes, for example in a Picture in Picture layout.

4 Audio

  • 4.1 Checking audio

The best way to check audio is with headphones connected to the multiviewer screen. That screen has an audio out connection. This lets you listen to the Program audio of the video mixer. When livestreaming it is recommended to join the meeting as a guest via a separate laptop to hear how the audio sounds for viewers.

  • 4.2 Function of Solo and Speaker

The solo or speaker button under an audio fader ensures that the audio from that specific channel is sent to the speaker in the control room or studio. This makes it possible to make audio from videos or external callers audible in the studio. When no solo button is active, all audio is sent to the speaker together.

  • 4.3 Connecting extra microphones

XLR microphones can be connected directly to the yellow marked microphone ports on the flightcase. When a microphone does not produce sound, phantom power may need to be activated in the X AIR Edit software via the desktop shortcut. When no free microphone input is available, GetyourStudio can add an extra input on request.

  • 4.4 Overrule function of the audio mixer

When a scene is started the audio mixer is automatically adjusted based on the scene settings. This is useful, but sometimes you want to retain manually set volumes. In that case you can activate the overrule function. The scene will then no longer affect the audio settings. Do not forget to deactivate overrule when using a scene that contains video or other audio elements, otherwise all audio must be adjusted manually.

  • 4.5 Reducing volume and quality differences between audio sources

Large differences in volume and quality between microphones can have several causes. It is important to test this well before the broadcast. On the multiviewer you can see the level of the Program audio. It is recommended to stay around minus fifteen dB. Always use headphones to assess the quality.

Check whether microphones require phantom power and enable it if necessary in the X AIR Edit software. Ensure microphones are clipped on in the same way and not under clothing or in contact with hair or skin. The windscreen must remain free to prevent scratching sounds. Also check if microphones are pointed in the right direction.

  • 4.6 External caller not audible in the studio

When an external caller is not audible, check if the audio channel shows activity. Open the correct audio fader and check whether solo is active on the correct channel, usually HDMI IN or Media. Check whether the studio speaker volume is open and properly connected to the speaker port of the flightcase. If the problem persists GetyourStudio can help via .

  • 4.7 Microphones feeding back

Feedback occurs when sound from a speaker is picked up again by a microphone. Check which microphone is causing this. Use the solo button to send only the correct audio to the speaker. Turn off microphones when not speaking and lower the speaker volume when necessary.

Feedback is a sharp whistling sound caused by sound from a speaker being picked up again by a microphone. This usually happens when a microphone is too close to a speaker.

Ensure that only the correct channels go to the studio speaker. When videos need to be audible in the studio the solo function on the Media fader can be used. When not speaking it is best to turn off microphones to avoid unwanted noise.

When the problem persists you can lower the speaker volume. Test safe volume levels before the broadcast, even when speaking loudly into the microphone.

  • 4.8 Evaluating audio at studio quality

To evaluate audio use headphones connected to the multiviewer. This lets you listen to the Program output of the video mixer. When livestreaming it is wise to join as a guest via a second laptop so you hear exactly how the audio sounds for viewers.

  • 4.9 Using the gain fader

Besides the volume of each audio fader you can adjust the base strength of a microphone via the gain setting. This is useful to equalize microphones when volumes differ. Gain settings can be found in the X AIR Edit software. Use gain sparingly so the sound remains natural and without distortion.

  • 4.10 Noise suppression in streaming platforms

Some streaming services such as Teams or Zoom automatically filter background noise. This can sometimes cause video audio, such as music or sound effects, to be barely audible. For the best streaming experience disable or lower noise suppression in the platform settings.

5 Displays and multiviewer

  • 5.1 Layout of the multiviewer

The layout and labels of the multiviewer can be adjusted via the ATEM software of the video mixer. If needed GetyourStudio can look along remotely to make these adjustments.

  • 5.2 Changing images or videos on studio monitors

When a new scene is started the image on the studio monitors may change. This happens because the image or video is loaded from the same mediaplayer. When a scene uses a new media file the old file is overwritten. Everywhere this mediaplayer is used a new image appears.

A solution is to use an alternative mediaplayer. If no free mediaplayer is available GetyourStudio may be able to activate an extra player via . Another option is to load the file as a source via a PowerPoint.

  • 5.3 Studio image changes when switching scenes

When a scene starts the content of the mediaplayer is replaced. This changes all displays that use this mediaplayer. A solution is a second mediaplayer. An alternative solution is to load the image via a PowerPoint.

  • 5.4 Source flickers on the multiviewer

When a source flickers on the multiviewer this may be due to a bad cable connection or a defective cable. Check whether the SDI cable of the camera or HDMI cable of a laptop is properly connected. Remove and reinsert the cable. Gently move the connector to see if the image returns briefly.

If possible replace the cable temporarily. If this does not help the problem may be inside the flightcase. In that case contact .

6 Scenes and compositions

  • 6.1 Options within a scene

A scene combines various elements that can be active simultaneously. You can choose from several scene types such as full image, Picture in Picture, Green Screen or extended compositions. Various sources can be selected within a scene such as cameras, media, PowerPoint, PowerPoint Notes, Wireless Share, HDMI or even the Program. Camera presets can be triggered and microphones can be selected or adjusted. Transition effects and looping of videos can also be configured.

  • 6.2 Adding transition effects

When switching from one scene to another you can choose a transition such as fade or cut. During scene creation you can select the desired effect at the bottom right. The default is a hard switch. The transition speed is always the same but can be adjusted via the ATEM software. GetyourStudio can help with this.

  • 6.3 Looping videos

A video can be repeated via the loop option in the mediaplayer or preset during scene creation. At the bottom right there is an option to loop the video. By default this option is off.

  • 6.4 Picture in Picture position

There are four standard positions available for Picture in Picture. If another size or position is needed this can be adjusted by contacting . It can also be useful to use Compositions. These are extended variants of Picture in Picture and offer more flexibility in layouts.

7 Cameras

  • 7.1 Activating autotracking

Autotracking can be activated in two ways. The first is manual. Next to the column with camera presets there is a button to enable or disable autotracking. The second way is within a scene. During scene creation you can indicate while selecting the camera preset whether an autotracking preset should be used.

  • 7.2 Creating camera presets

A camera preset can be stored in multiple ways and the chosen method makes no difference. The preset is always stored directly on the camera.

Via the remote control you can create a preset by selecting the correct camera first. Move the camera to the desired position. With Canon cameras press set and then the number you want to store the preset in. You will not get visual confirmation but you can test it by pressing the preset number again.
